about

Andrea Giomi / Shari Delorian “Seven degrees of light” [2017] 13:30

“Seven degrees of light” is a four-mouvement electroacoustic composition inspired by Anton Bruckner’s well-known seventh symphony “Adagio”. The notions of light and ascesis are core metaphors within this work. The piece presents an internal evolution from dark and granular timbres to bright and symphonic textures in the movements’ internal form and in the composition’s global progression. Similarly, sound internal morphology reflects the idea of ascesis: during the four movements, the piece’s aural sources evolve from rich electroacoustic materials to abstract and ethereal soundscapes. Such progression resonates with the gradual disclosure of the music’s original source: during this process Brucknerian’s fragments emerge as echos or distant memories.

Andrea Giomi
Musician, digital artist and scholar. His academic and artistic research focuses on embodied music cognition, motion-sensing technologies, human-computer interaction and phenomenology of perception. As musician and digital artist, his major interests involve improvisational processes in electroacoustic live music and the emergent relations between bodies, sound and technological environments. Deeply influenced by techno, dub, ambient and avant-garde music, his music is characterized by the interaction between deep contemplative sonic masses and sudden rhythmic ascesis. His production has been released on several independent labels like RXSTNZ, ADN, Communion.
