Xanthoria elegans


Foliose, with yellow to deep orange, very narrow (< 1mm), adpressed, somewhat serpentine lobes; apothecia (fruiting bodies) usually abundant, concolorous with the thallus or more deeply coloured. On nutrient-enriched rocks, walls, concrete; widespread and locally common, though tending to be more frequent in upland areas.

Behind the origin of Spermatòdes (from the ancient greek, “fertile”, “seminal”, “embryonic”) there is the Hesiod’s Theogony: from there I focused on the moments immediately after the castration of Uranus. The multiple temporal dimensions, which can be found within this short section, flow as in a one and great “non-time”; this “non-time”, in an expanded polyphony, can evoke different kind of births. The Erinyes join the Nymphes and the Giants, into the chaotic whirlwind of the birth of Aphrodite. Within this potentially endless flow nothing begins and nothing becomes: an embryonic, pulsing “Enantiodromica Afrodite”. The sound materials used in these piece are mostly of concrète origin: hydrophonic records from a forked stream in Valsesia. The formal structure has been acquired from the study of the slopes that the stream had to follow, in a landscape made of waterfalls, puddles and different bottoms. The main material processing are: subtractive synthesis, convolution and the use of Karplus-Strong algorithm (using as acquisition source the same samples to create some non-linear “pizzicati” on a fundamental frequence from 17Hz to 39Hz).

Born in 1992 in Borgosesia, he starts studying piano since young age and wins many local piano competitions. He continues his studies at the Conservatory of Novara and Artistic High School where he gains interest for multimedia and Contemporary Art. Since 2013 he attends at the Conservatory of Como, in the Electroacustic Composition Department. Student of S. Sapir, G. Klauer, A. Vigani, he specializes attending the masterclass by G. Kogan, M. Lupone, A. Vidolin, F. Cifariello Ciardi, J. Scordato, A. I. De Benedictis, D. Tanzi, E. Bocca. Since 2016 he is a member of the group “Elettrosensi Laptop Ensemble”, and in 2017 he has become an active member as performer and composer for the Association AUDIOR.
